As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was instantly impressed by the warm atmosphere that greeted me after coming in from the cold air. I later learned that the temperature inside was set to the Australian standard, as co-owner Georgie Binder hails from there. Blackfriars Bar and Restaurant is situated just off the Royal Mile, in a space that was formerly occupied by Black Bo's, a beloved Edinburgh establishment for over two decades. The layout is unique, with the bar located at number 57 and the restaurant at number 61. Despite the separate entrances and rooms, they are connected by a basement corridor and kitchen. Blackfriars Restaurant and bar opened in Edinburgh’s Blackfriars Street in Their aim is to create a place which is ‘relaxed yet professional, with food that is unfussy and tasty’. The bar and restaurant, which are next door to one another, share a garden space which can be used for alfresco drinks and dining. There’s some really good craft beers on offer if that’s your scene so it is well worth arriving early for some pre-dinner drinks.

Although it's a popular spot for tourists, the food at this restaurant is fantastic. I've been there for drinks and a delicious chicken meal, which was both affordable and charming. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area.
