We visited Chartres in February for its wonderful cathedral with 150 stained glass windows. After more than three hours in the cathedral we needed somewhere nearby for lunch and to rest our legs. Le Weekend is just by the cathedral. It has a lunch specials board outside as well as the menu, which is wholesome home cooked French cuisine, lamb shank etc. We opted for the lighter menu and I had croque Monsieur, my partner had the filled crepes, both came with salad. Restaurant with breathtaking views of the cathedral. Very good family cooking, simple, varied with very very interesting prices. Making reservations is recommended. Unobstructed view of the cathedral. The restaurant is south. Perfect for warming up old bodies (smile). In the shade of the parasols (The parasols will be closed in case of warning of wind for the safety of all, it is normal, plan a hat). The interior is cosi and comfortable. He also sells cigarettes and offers local reading on site. The proximity of the cathedral ensures at certain times of the day the singing of the bells live.I returned without hesitation.

We have dined here previously and returned to Chartres specifically in time to have lunch here again this year. The proprietress is extremely friendly and speaks fluent English. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced, especially for being across the street from a main tourist attraction. The food is absolutely fresh and delicious, and it is served in very adequate portions. Go there!

One of the few restaurants open for lunch near the cathedral and it was packed which is usually a good sign. The food was pretty good and service attentive and fast. The place is small though and the tables are too close to each other.

The cathedral is, of course, hugely impressive. But at 7am it's tough to find a coffee and croissant. Le Weekend is less tourist more working man's cafe. Off the southwest corner.
