Maneki Neko Japanese Restaurant

My family and I have been coming here for a long time. We think it's one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area, but this was our first time back since COVID started. I'm only marking it 4/5 instead of 5/5 since I thought that the Miso soup was a bit watery. They must be going for a more subtle taste but personally I prefer a more robust flavor. Everything else was exceptional though. The Futomaki had a balanced combination of ingredients and flavors. Sushi rice can be hard to perfect, but the rice in these rolls was sweet and sticky without either quality being overpowering. The egg was nicely spongy while still having a slight firmness. A cute Japanese restaurant in the heart of falls church city! I loved the cozy atmosphere and the staff was so friendly. I ordered something a little bit off-menu (katsu curry) but they were happy to oblige and it was so good! They were super generous with the ingredients- a lot more chicken than I expected in the curry, but everything was cooked down so well and the carrots were nice and soft. They had some specials up on the walls that I'm looking forward to trying next time!

Such a yummy, casual spot! I went for lunch with a friend. The staff were are super polite and friendly. I got the super lunch bento box (pic included it came with miso soup too) and it didn’t disappoint! The portion of chicken was very generous. The prices were great. I parked down the road on the street. The parking behind this place was reserved parking only, or at least that’s what was available when I went. I highly recommend eating here!!

Modest space with nice outdoor seating in front and attentive service, plus parking in the rear. The sushi, while good, wasn’t particularly great and some pieces tasted more fresh than others. Very good prices though, especially for the $11 lunch bento box deal.
