The Duke Of Wellington

My husband and I visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch with another couple. Although it was quite busy, the staff remained friendly and attentive throughout our visit, despite clearly being overwhelmed. The menu offered a great selection of roasts and other main dishes; we opted for the roast, sharing beef, pork, and the roast chicken of the day. All of the roasts were excellent, and the portion sizes were quite generous. We also shared cauliflower cheese (which was just okay) and stuffing (which was superb). We have bid farewell to the Duke of Wellington, as the quality of food in our area declined after a major pub company took over. Thankfully, a solid gastro pub still exists in our neighborhood! We’ve enjoyed several meals here, trying different menus, and while we had one major disappointment (the Salted Caramel Tart, which we won’t be ordering again), the rest of the food and service were impeccable.

While the staff were friendly, we were not informed about the specials menu and only discovered it at the end of our meal. The food was disappointing; I received a dry piece of ginger cake that was supposed to be sticky toffee pudding! This is definitely not what I would expect from a proper gastropub.

I had the delicious rump steak, cooked to perfection at medium rare. The peppercorn sauce was unique and quite strong. The chips were excellent as well, a perfect portion just right for dessert! The chocolate ice cream was delightful, and the Malbec was a perfect pairing.
