The French Horn - Reservar uma mesa

I recently had the most disappointing restaurant meal of my life when my son and my daughter-in-law took me to the French horn to celebrate my birthday. I was really looking forward to an excellent meal as the French horn had such a good call. but the kalbs I chose for my main course was so hard that I could hardly cut, let alone eating it. all the main courses cost to exclude sweet and kartomas, but both the choices of my son and the daughter-in-law were small and not very good. my son and I chose both the chocolate and chestnut pudding, which was absolutely tiny and very disappointing, although my son had ordered an expensive bottle of wine to celebrate my birthday, a very fierce bill was...

I visited Sonning on a Saturday it was very busy. I was waiting for my husband to arrive so parked and went in to The French Horn to see if I could sit and have a coffee while I waited. The car park was empty...compared to elsewhere in Sonning, the bar was empty. I understand why now! I was greeted by a gentleman who asked if he could help. I asked could I please have a coffee. He looked me up and down and said Are you a walker? I said no I was waiting for my husband to arrive. He said the hotel was only for residents and showed me to the door. Reading through the reviews I see I am not alone in this experience. I took my business elsewhere, had a lovely coffee at The Mill.

the service was good and the wine was pleasant. Unfortunately, eating was not on our taste. the restaurant seems to provide customers with very traditional taste that, while I am sure that many people enjoy, unfortunately not quite hit the place for us. that is not a critique of itself. from our visit it was clear that the restaurant has a very faithful customer base and what is desired works very well. Unfortunately it was simply not for us, and it would be inconspicuous to say that we really enjoyed the meal.

So this is definitely an old school French restaurant and oh my goodness they do it well! Lovely dressed crab and calves liver and strawberry souffle. The table laid with melba toast et al. Gorgeous. Delightful lounger with fireplaces and watch the duck roasting on...the spit. Really great lunch.

Food and service were both excellent. The most comprehensive wine list and although we went for the cheapest it was delicious. I can highly recommend the French Horn for people looking for quality and elegance in a beautiful setting.
