A Candella - Reservar uma mesa

This restaurant is not what it seems. The beautiful terrace on lots of the photos is no longer a feature of the restaurant but there are a couple of the outside tables that still have a lovely view. We were looking forward to a nice cote du boeuf which we have eaten many times elsewhere. Sadly this was not the case! The meat was of very poor quality, served with soggy unrecognisable vegetables that restaurants stopped serving over 10 years ago in most places! They also arrived about 10 minutes before the meat, so were stone cold when it arrived. There wasn’t even the opportunity to have fries with the dish. This would have all been acceptable if the meat had been tasty and as expected. Sadly...

I visited with my wife who has also posted on this on detail. Again please note the photos on the website are a scam as this was sold during covid to the next door hotel no doubt to raise some euros and is not available so you dine on tables in a very public area. Suffice to say eating the Cote de Boeuf was like chewing a tennis ball. The so called manager had just no interest at all in our views and our meal experience except promoting a very public argument. Our worst dining experience in two weeks on holiday by far. Go to Calvi town itself and the harbour area for massively better dining experiences.

The food was tasteless. We had fish with vegetables and rice, none of which had flavour. One of the children also had fish and it was so dry, that he could only eat half of it. We also ordered two well done steakes, but they were burned on the outside and raw on the inside, barely chewable. The view from the restaurant is great, but it’s really a tourist trap. Poor ingredients and no cooking skills from the chef. A shame for the Corsican cuisine.

If you make your way up to the Calvi citadel, don't miss the opportunity of eating at A Candella especially if you can get a table on the terrace overlooking the bay. The view is spectacular! We had excellent salads for lunch: service was friendly and efficient, with staff speaking English.

Lovely staff, fantastic location, beautiful terrace, sadly awful food. The assiette de mer was dry and tasteless and the entrecôte steak was dry, rubbery and tasteless. Very disappointing as it could be superb.
