This was recommended as a place to get typical Portuguese food and from every body we talked to that is what we got. The tomato soup came highly recommended and my companion went for a codfish stew (I think it’s picture is used in advertising the restaurant). I had seen the bowls of tomato soup go by so I ordered the soup and my husband ordered the cod and we decided we would see what else we needed. My goodness, there was enough food for six people and only two of us to eat it. The soup is lie a stewed tomato soup with bread in it. It is huge and filling and very good. The codfish stew was also extremely generous with a heavy broth with bread in it and the codfish and a hard boiled egg came...
We ate here based on our hotel recommendation and I'm so glad we did. It's a simple placed with a cozy atmosphere and a very friendly server (owner? who speaks English well. We had the cheese and meats to begin, followed by the tomato soup and fresh sole. Everything was tasty, but I absolutely loved the soup. It's a traditional dish of the region, and is definitely enough for a full meal (though we split it . It's sort of a like a stew, chunky with bread and a poached egg within, and sausages served on the side.
The restaurant was recommended by our hotel. The tomato soup we shared was delicious, the wine from the barrel was good but the black pork we shared was dry, over-cooked and way too salty. If we had not tried black pork in Lisbon we would have assumed that was how it should be (as the waiter tried to tell us) but it’s not. In its favour, it is cheap, I guess you get what you pay for ....... Reserve uma mesa agora
We wanted a quiet, rustic place with great food...and got exactly that. As opposed to most places where the bread and other pre-meal items are placed on the table without explanation, we were told upfront that they were extra. The tomato soup lived up to its reputation...delicious and filling. Service was efficient and friendly. Would definitely return.
A welcoming restaurant away from the main tourist throng. This restaurant is very beautiful inside, an almost cave like room with some interesting wine barrels and other furnishings. We enjoyed the very special tomato soup (a meal in itself with its accompaniments of sausages and breads) and the fish of the day which was turbot. Good value too.
My friend booked this place for lunch and we go there and I was a bit sceptical. But oh boy, the tomato soup and various sausages and the egg etc that comes with it is out of this world. I did not have the bread because it was not gluten free but for the rest, an experience to remember and cherish. Delicious.
