Au gout du jour - Reservar uma mesa

Better than a Mom Pop shop, this restaurant is handled by a couple of Grand Parents who manage everything alone. Wisdom coming with experience, they refuse people as soon as they have filled in 10 tables, which makes that delays remain acceptable, at least by French standards, and service from the Lady owner is professional and friendly. However, if you have really made up your mind for this place, book in advance. Atmosphere was peaceful and easy going the day of our visit, the type of atmosphere one would expect in such a small village. Decor is a bit on the dull side. Food doesn’t deserve either the flows of indignity that I have found in some of the French reviews, nor the excessive kudo...

As other people have mentioned, the interior of the restaurant probably doesn't do the restaurant too many favours being a bit drab but this is more than made up for by the quality of the welcome, and the service in general. The food is of good quality as well nothing particularly fancy but honest French cuisine. I particularly enjoyed my herring starter and we both enjoyed the dessert very much. The wine list (much of it supplied by the local Caveau du Tour) has a good range of local wines at very decent prices. If you are in Saint Ambroix and want a more formal(ish) dinner, I would certainly recommend the restaurant.

We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and we’re lucky to get a table. The food was good, but a single waitress wasn’t enough for a full house. Drinks arrived after the food. We would’ve taken another drink, but by the time we were able to alert the waitress, we decided to get the check, pay and leave. Too bad, because the food was really enjoyable. Service probably owing to the fact that a lot of places lost personnel during COVID-19 lockdowns or non-vaccinated people not being hired as is the case in a lot of places these days.

One of the few places to eat in St Ambroix, in the evening, out of season. Had an enjoyable meal but chef forgot our starters which was a bit disappointing The lady of the house was very apologetic but still it did marr the evening a bit. Food was nice, well presented and tasty but nothing out of the ordinary and, for my mind, a little over priced for what it was. The wine was delicious at 17 euros a bottle. Would visit again.

Four of us went for an evening meal and overall the food and wine was quite good. The one let down was the fact that the main courses were served on cold plates which may have been why the vegetables were also cold. If that had not been the case, it was probably worthy of 4 stars. Could not complain about the service which was courteous and friendly.
