Au roi Gradlon - Reservar uma mesa

After having enjoyed the sun at Baie des Trepasses, we decided to treat ourselves to a very nice dinner. So we did. The best was my starter, 2 types of ravioli filled with fresh foie gras, one steamed, the other one deep fried, with pieces of artichoke hearts, an aubergine creme and a super jus au serrano. My wife enjoyed salmon prepared 2 ways. Mains was a John Dory fillet with a crust of ground almonds and cocoa on a bed of thinly sliced turnips, with a potato cake and a lovely creamy sauce. Excellent, inventive cooking. The interior of the dining area could do with some nicer lighting and decoration though. But....all in all an excellent meal.

Years ago I had probably the most delicious fish dish I have ever tasted, here at Au Roi Gradlon. It was not anything more than beautifully cooked Hake, served with a simple butter/lemon sauce, potatoes and spinach. The beauty of it was that it was so fresh, and the chef let the fish do the talking . On my recent return I was thrilled to experience the same philosophy in action, and excellent service continuing to be the norm alongside the wonderful location and views.

We wanted to go to a real nice fish and seafood restaurant while in Audierne, The restaurant is from days past, however. The menu is fancy, the food is fine, not great. But the rooms are bare, carpeted floors as if I'm in an old cantine, view to the sea obscured by foggy windows and rusty railings. The whole thing needs a make over to get into the 21st century, and to match the food.

Great seafood (have the Couscous de la Mer) with nice (at reasonable prices) wine list. Of course, meat is available as well. The terrine de roquefort was an amazing desert, enjoyed with a nice view over the ocean !

I had the duck and my husband the the steak. We were both pleased with the food. The service was very good.
