Auberge Gasconne Les Varietes

This once bustling bar/restaurant really could do with a shot in the arm. The Auberge is one of very few restaurants in the area to open in the evening 7 days a week. However, as with most eateries in Montrejeau, it is busiest at lunchtimes particularly on market day. The early evenings are quiet, with many lone diners enjoying the plat du jour rather than cook at home. Things tend to liven up much later on, particularly on long summer evenings and at weekends, when you'll often see large parties arrive to eat up to 10pm at night. We came here late on a Monday night when almost everything was shut down including the restaurant our hotel recommended. Not expecting much but pleasently suprised we had a enjoyable meal. Ate outside not great on ambiance. The food was very good. The vegetable pizza and the green salad we’re completely eaten. Owner was walking about and even suggested a great local wine. Our waitress spoke no English had no problems with us and my husbands pigeon French.

The service is not worthy of the ritz, but the kitchen is excellent and pizzas even more. The boss is nice and young waitress not necessarily experienced but one day we have to start in the profession. for gastronomes I recommend it for Parisians who don't like anything except bleached, silence and ham butter that I recommend.

My friends and when to the auberge gasconne last night, a friday, we had a beer and studied the menu, ordered pizzas only to be told there were no pizzas. Wno ever heared of a pizzaria with no pizzas. We left.

Went there twice because it was the only place we could find open. Pasta the first night and pizza the second night. I was not impressed.
