Avril Williams Guest House and Tea Rooms

A quick two minute drive North West from Beaumont Hamel, this is a lovely little place to head to especially if, like us, you’ve been caught in a downpour touring the site of the 29th Divisions attack on 1st of July. We had tea and an assortment of cakes which were just the thing to warm us up. A must see is the trench in the back garden. It’s actually a real trench from the war that has been excavated and restored and gives you some of a suggestion of what this whole place must have looked like. It has been restored relatively recently and it’s interesting to see how it is beginning to deteriorate – a fascinating archaeological experiment. Visiting battlefields in the area and found this place on google which seemed ideal for a bite to eat, signs everywhere to say it was open 7 days a week.When we arrived tearoom doors all locked and someone who looked like a cleaner, told us it was closed.Read previous review and realised we were not the only ones! Also tried calling but answerphone on.Not impressed. Followed previous reviewer's recommendation and found Tommy's at Poizieres open for business

Great place for a sandwich or bowl of soup when visiting various war memorials and monuments in the area. Affordable and efficient. Note: the cappuccino was not a cappuccino, but a cup of black coffee with whipped cream. So that was a bit of a disappointing end to the meal. But we would stop again without hesitation.

A great place to visit if you want to take some time to reflect on the epic battles that took place close to this spot. It's quite and peaceful and does simple good drinks and food. The bonus is the trench system in the back garden. Will visit again Reserve uma mesa agora

After hearing so much about this popular place I made a point of stopping here for lunch today. I had an omelet and chips. It was very good and reasonably priced. I also had a look at the trench in back.

A very poor experience recently when it seemed that to serve us was too much trouble. If you are looking for decent, simple food it's OK but the service is poor.

Simple food well severed. Friendly place with nice gardens to eat in if the weather is OK. Have a look at the trenches round the back when you are there.

Lovely garden setting with lovely chickens roaming freely. Good basic French lunchtime fare and friendly, pleasant service.
