We went to this place after a picnic by the chateau, hoping to have a relaxing drink. Eventually a waiter asked what we wanted. We ordered a rosé and dry white wine. He asked if it mattered which wine, to which I replied asking what they had. He then brought me the wine list. A couple of minutes later, a waitress literally grabbed the wine list from me. I asked if I could order, which she grudgingly allowed us to do, muttering about how the wine list was from the restaurant and wondering if I behave like that in my own country (like what exactly? . Maybe it's because we visited during the Espelette chili fete but it wasn't the best dining experience. Ok so the food was ok as it turned out but a set menu and no choices for a set price you had to pay up front when reserving detracted big time. We were then asked if we'd be having wine with dinner and then when we said yes were asked to pay for that up front as well...totally bizarre behaviour and not what you'd expect from any restaurant. When one of our party didn't come to eat there was a lot of argument about the refund even though the restaurant was largely empty when we dined. In the end all was resolved amicably, but the experience didn't make us feel like we'd return again.

We went there on Sunday afternoon and had lunch there. Service was first really slow although they didn’t have so many customers there. It was also very rude and I was ready to quit but we didn’t have so many other options so we decided to stay and that was good... My food, duck smashed potato gratin-type portion, was exellent! Also my wife’s salad was really good so it was worth of visiting finally. Service became a little bit more friendly so at the end of our visit we were quite happy customers. Menu is only in French and Basque language and waitress didn’t speak English so I needed help of Google translator...

We found this restarant quite late in the afternoon (around 2.30 pm) and asked politely if they still served food. The staff agreed to serve us but we had to wait for about 40 minutes for a salad a some almost raw meat with old dry chips. When we complained the staff answered unpolitely instead of apoligising!

We had a perfectly good meal here however, the service was beyond a joke. We had French people with us and they were incensed at the slow pace. One waitress I think was more concerned about how beautiful she looked. The man in all this, I have to admit, was charming and spoke good English.
