On the 5th level of the BHV department store is a self-service cafe. Like the cafeteria in college or at a hospital. OK food, nothing fancy but I found it all typical and fresh. Also a grill and a few other options. You buy a jetton or token at the register for the coffee machine. Great views overlooking the city of Paris, inexpensive food. Eating like a local. Like some McDonalds in the states you will see older, retired(? , lonely(? French sitting by the windows and spending hours sipping on a coffee and croissant. Why not? Very nice meal of the day; very friendly service. Get there before 13:30 or you might miss out on the main meal of the day that is reasonably priced. We took our time looking at the selections and then proceeded to order our food. Delicious and lots of seating room. Lots to choose from: salads, starters, breads, vegetables, drinks, meat dishes, pastas and desserts. Special find for us was the fresh orange juice that is pressed whilst you wait. Definitely well worth it, 5th floor; we took the Metro to Chatelet and exited in the bazaar/departmental store that is enormous and has good quality goods. Bazaar is situated opposite the City Hall (also very impressive building), a block from the Sein...

My wife and I have lunch at the BHV self serve at least once each time that we're in Paris. The selection of (the hard boiled eggs always seem to be over cooked) salads, pizzas, hot entrees, and quiche is very good. The prices are very good and the restaurant is bright and airy. They renovated recently and the restaurant still has the long tables but has added a few couches and other casual furniture. I've included some pictures that are a poor representation. We'll be back.
