Historically what differentiated France from the rest of the world was that the working class enjoyed good food as much as the middle class, and there were restaurants like this to serve them. As France has become more global, this kind of place, where you can get simple delicious food at a low price has steadily disappeared giving way to fast food, chains and sandwiches. The Cafe Restaurant de la Place in Epinac is a survivor and rightly so. We chanced on the place while cycling as a family around Burgundy and enjoyed a delicious light lunch cooked and served by the proprietor and his wife. Excellent lunch in a small village bistro! Very friendly service who patiently explained the dishes to us as French is not my native language. There is a small selection of dishes, but they are all very tasty. I can definitely recommend the restaurant!

I come to eat there when my mother comes. We have the right to real surprises when eating desserts that are out of the ordinary

Though the café is a little basic, typical French Café. The food was excellent, four courses, wine and coffee all for 16 Euros.
