Carmen's Cafe - Reservar uma mesa

We have a reservation for 6:45 and have been confirmed. We're in time, but there were no hosts at the door, so we waited. About 10 minutes later another party came for 4 with only 2 of them there, the hostess showed up and sat them first. Not a big thing, maybe they got a table ready for our party of 2 but it would have been nice to know that instead of being ignored? I have on the table and it is a nice ambience for a romantic night out, but the bread was just a simple white bread that you can get anywhere and didn't even taste fresh, no special spread for the bread simply butter. I'm surprised how disgusting everything was. My husband and I ordered crabcakes, garlic cheese bread, chicken spiedini julian, and chicken parm. Everything was bland and something tasted above all the lack of taste. The cheese was all melted in a plastic film on bread and parm. The alfredo sauce used for the julian tasted like warm, thick heavy peat cream and nothing else. They gave us a whole bread as if they apologise for how bad everything was. The chicken from the julian was okay, but I scratched the sauce because I just don't like it. I couldn't go beyond two bites of the crab cake, and I just went for the second bite because I was shocked how it was gone. I know we're on the coast, but...

Surprised I've not reviewed Carmen's sooner, my family goes here often for celebrations. Carmen's does a great job of putting up with all of us! Their food as been some of our fave Italian in KC for a couple of decades. It's not the most ideal place to eat in a pandemic, and definitely not recommended if you have accessibility issues. Service this time around was great as usual. We went on a Sunday evening and enjoyed 50% off bottled wine under $50. The bread service is excellent and should not be passed up. Atmosphere was awesome. Service was as good as it gets. However the food was mediocre. I didn't even take pics because of the disappointing presentation. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and it was tasty but underwhelming. It appeared rushed and cheaply made. Overall we did have a nice evening and I would recommend this place for a cozy drink or two at the bar.

We reserved an area upstairs for a my son?s rehearsal dinner. The service was impeccable and the food was by far the best! Would give a million stars if I could! Thank you Carmen?s for such a beautiful celebratory evening!
