I like to write about restaurants which are unassuming and slightly hidden, but are gems offering excellent cuisine. This is the case with Chez Marianne. After visiting a very cold, bleak and snowy Hartmannswillerkopf nearby (World War I battlefield and monument, also highly recommended) we were hungry for some local cuisine. This restaurant initially appears more bar than restaurant but don't be fooled: they offer an excellent selection of the best traditional dishes of the region. I had 6 snails which were fantastic, followed by carp fritters. Yes, carp, the freshwater fish! Absolutely melt in the mouth delicious not at all what I was expecting.
