I’ve been going here for a while now. I used to always get the rasta pasta with the mushrooms or jackfruit. I’ve tried the crab cake and the lentil burger but they’ve never been anything to write home about for me. The mac has always been my favorite side. Now today, I wanted to try something new. So i got the jackfruit, plantain and cheese arepa. It’s basically like a sandwich and gluten free too! Well it was amazing and even though you might have a long wait time, the food is going to be FRESH and HOT. It was SO GOOD. I also got the sides plate with cabbage, mac and cheese and STEWED BEANS. Wow!! The food here is hands down the best vegan food in Hampton Roads!!! So many great options all with their own unique flavors, aromas, and texture! All the reviews recommended the lentil empanada; Mac n cheese; and arepa with jackfruit and plantains. So we ordered them, alongside pumpkin curry and rice and its peas. We could not believe the explosions of flavor in every bite. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. Get your adventure on here today! You will not regret it!! Now Desmond’s isn’t your average vegan restaurants. This place takes vegan junk/comport food enhances it with a Caribbean, Soulful twist! You can literally smell the freshness goodness as soon as you walk into the restaurant! I had the Lentil burger, fried plantains, lentil meatballs I’m not joking when I say it’s something you won’t find anywhere else! It was so unique flavorful, I’ve never had anything like it! One of the best spots I’ve had in a while!

We used the app to help us find this gem. EVERYTHING was outstanding!!!!The staff and owner are passionate about the food and lifestyle and is evidenced by the depth of flavor in their food. We tried the jerk jackfruit, Krabcakes and Rasta pasta, the chef recommended complimentary sides which were perfection. We will be back again. I enjoyed the jerk jackfruit with yellow rice and collard greens. My husband had the crab cakes with plantains and mac and cheese. It was all good but the portions were large for us and a little spicy (We can’t handle much spice. The service was friendly. I would definitely go back to try other dishes next time I am in town.

I ordered an Uber Eats pickup. Got the crab cakes with collards and Mac and cheese. Delicious! Also got burger which was 5 stars!! Updated from previous review on 2023-12-07

Desmond’s Island Soul Grill was very good. We loved that it is black owned! I’d been missing Caribbean cuisine since becoming vegan and this really hit the spot!

I've had the krabcake sandwich, mac and cheese, and arepas. Everything was really good and they have great service! Reasonable prices
