Europa - Reservar uma mesa

Been to Europa cafe in the middle of the Carnegie shopping strip, a number of times over the years. A very small café with a few small tables tightly packed. Interesting, but expensive, cakes. We ordered a couple of cakes, a macha tea a cappuccino. I carefully and specifically ordered a soy cappuccino. When it was brought to our table I asked again if it was soy – the guy nodded. I had it. It wasn’t soy – with a significant effect on me a short time later. I won’t go into details – but glad I got home in time. There is always trust when you go into a café or a restaurant – that you actually get what you ordered , that it is prepared properly and that it is safe to consume. They got it wrong...

This my opinion of course, The cakes here are dry and tasteless, which is disappointing because the street is filled with wonderful foods of all types (mainly asian), StKilda's Acland street has three shops that eat this one for lunch, If another cake shop opened in this street it would smash it home. you can see from all my other reviews I am usually nice, so for me to turn, there must be something wrong. I have tried this shop many times over the last five years, it just can't get it wright...

The food is predictable and filling. It is Middle European with bakery delights, sweet and savoury, plus made to order meals. We wanted nothing fancy and were pleased at the vegetarian items available. There were pastries, soups, and toast varieties. We selected a smashed avocado and ricotta on rye toast and a Lentil Soup. The soup was excellent and the avo might have done better with two pieces of toast. The prices were not cheap, but they did not skimp on quality and flavour.

Stopped here for coffee and cake. Sat outside, not expecting anything special but was pleasantly surprised by the coffee, cakes and service. Much better than first impressions

Great coffee and AWESOME cheesecake. Couldn’t take a photo as we ate our shared slice too quickly! Can also buy whole cakes to take away (which we will do).
