Gasthaus Goldenes Kreuz

My wife and I had the pleasure of having dinner with a German Professor at this lovely and historic restaurant known as Restaurant Goldenes Kreuz (meaning, Golden Cross). We learned that this is one of the best in Germany. Established in 1508, the restaurant is in the oldest building in Coburg. It serves the authentic taste of regional Franconian cuisine. “Traditional. Modern. Franconian” is its motto. The dishes we had was one of the best Franconian cuisines we ever tasted. The dessert “Home-made Coburg dumpling” was delicious and one-of-a-kind. If you ever get a chance to dine there, you will for certain enjoy the historic atmosphere of Franconian tradition. I had the pleasure of eating at Goldenes Kreuz with a large party of German relatives in 2019 Oct. They had all recommended this restaurant, and it certainly lived up to those recommendations. A lot of very tasty traditional Frankish dishes. And the atmosphere was an authentic, traditional German Gasthaus exactly what I am looking for when I go to Germany. I definitely recommend this place!

If you want to try some really authentic traditional german cuisine, this is the right place. We had Gedons with salad and Bouillabanaise with house beer. Everything was very tasty and the portions are quute big. Staff is very friendly and attentive. We didnt have reservations, but they managed to find us a place. If ever in Coburg again, we will return to this restaurant.

I love German food and to find a good German restaurant is always a treat! Gasthaus Goldenes Kreuz is located in the city center and has amazing local food! The red cabbage was excellent, the Butter noodles were excellent and the dessert was excellent. The server spoke great english and was very attentive even though the restaurant was very busy.

A must visit restaurant when in Coburg . To taste franconian kitchen prepared with care and Rafinesse . Enjoy the Gastfreundschaft in a nice historical building .
