During the (never ending) lockdown of Melbourne and the global pandemic, Hoa Sen has been my lifeline to civilisation. I have become addicted to their rare beef phở with extra seasonal vegetables. If you have ever heard the term, Chicken soup for the soul then you will understand that Hoa Sen is offering up the same bountiful goodness, Vietnamese style. I have appreciated that in every order my order notes have been followed. I am proud to support this local restaurant during such difficult times. We arrived about an hour before closing and seated ourselves along the long wall. Felt odd because the floor was sloped but the tables weren't. Very well adjusted to have them level. I don't usually eat Vietnamese however the menu was extensive and there were meals I readily recognised. Between us we had a rare beef pho and a satay chicken. The pho was big and flavoursome with ample fresh bean shoots on the side. The satay was tasty and not overloaded with spice. The prices were very reasonable and staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant itself appeared to be clean and well laid out. We will definitely make a return visit and try something different.
There is no doubt the food is great and my kids loved it. We had a selection of starters and a couple of mains. I particularly enjoyed the sugar cane prawns. The only problem here is the couple running the show although very friendly and most apologetic need to get their acts together. We had to ask for menus. I had to go to the counter to get attention to place an order and when we finished eating we had to stack the plates up to make room on the table. We will come back again as the food was great but they need to stop apologising and fix up the service.
