Kapuzinerstube - Reservar uma mesa

We've been a number of times and every time the food is great. It can be a bit salty so I often ask for no extra salt. But for a big, German meal you'll be very pleased. They have a couple of vegetarian options, too,...but it's mostly a meat or fish kind of place. Portions are huge. My favorite dish here is the Krezterfilet and I'm not even sure what kind of fish it is. It's local (I'm guessing Perch) from the Bodensee (Lake Constance) and they do a simple deal but it's perfect. We were in this restaurant and were not impressed, but when we heard that it had changed hands, we decided to give him another chance, what a transformation! With bright candles, crisp white tablecloths and rea slick service of talented young...servers, this place promised everything and did still disappoint. We didn't have a starter, but we went to the jugular immediately. My wife a vegetarian had risotto with spinach, my father in Law Lachs and I short ribs. The risotto and salmon looked good and I was told that I tasted good while the short ribs were like butter on the tongue. First impressions are that the restaurant is dirty and tired with dusty clutter on every available surface making the place look unloved and unhygienic. The menu is small and based around local food with seasonal variations. I ordered from this menu hoping to get fresh...ingredients but everything seemed to be from a can, frozen or just tasteless. To top it off both my savoury soup and my filet steak (cooked well done when requested rare) were weirdly covered in sweet cream from a can... at least they didn’t mess up the chips as these were definitely not home made. I’d suggest eating at almost anywhere else and avoiding here until they do some serious cleaning and get a new chef.

Somewhere between comfort and international gourmets, the new Kapuzinerstube is worth a great meal. There are no restaurants. The food is not fussy, but carefully and cleverly prepared. We cleaned all our plates, and the parts are not...small. There are generous and delicious options for vegetarians as well as people who enjoy a hearty, fleshy meal. There are also seafood, soups and salads. And the desserts are also really nice.
