La Cognette - Reservar uma mesa

I have not been to this establishment for a few years. This was due to a disappointing last visit but hey I had heard that La Cognette was top notch again. A warm and friendly welcome awaited us in this quirky but comfortable and interesting dining room. We were in for a treat! However the little amuses bouches we were served while choosing from the menu were just uninteresting, after ordering another round of amuse bouches which were nicely presented but just bland and pretty flavorless. Starters a carp dish was just lacking in seasoning and again bland. The main course was in my mind not very good, chicken with a very undercooked piece of liver and a citrus, honey and cranberry sauce. Not...

This is a very good provincial restaurant. Seating is comfortable and decor smart a combination of modern and traditional. The food is interesting and portions generous. Flavours are bold and clean with inventive use of spices: the veal three ways was a particularly successful dish. The mostly local cheeses had been kept well. The wine list contains a wide selection from the Loire, providing a combination of well known and unusual vignerons. The availability of good quality rooms at the hotel associated with the restaurant makes this a good venue for a stop over on a drive south.

Friends from a nearby town invited me to have lunch at this facility. It was an excellent choice as the atmosphere was very pleasing and the menu selection was enough to satisfy any palate.The food was excellent, portions ample and the service was beyond reproach. It was a wonderful dining experience which I hope to replicate in the very near future on my next trip to the Berry region of France.

Where to start? Our “reveillon” was a succession of the tastiest dishes gorgeously set on stylish plates. Gipsy music set the festive mood. The service was extremely professional and attentive yet friendly. Months later we still marvel at our top gourmet experience at La Cognette and wish to be back soon.

Visited as work guests, a very old world experience but in the best of ways. My palate wasn’t ready for some of the samples but the fillet steak was sublime. Beautifully cooked to the core an amazing presentation.
