Because for several years, we liked La Courtille de Solutre, we went back on a very hot day. We had a table inside because we do not like the smoke still present on the outside dining areas in France. We were forgotten for 45 min with the excuse that they show the blackboard in the order of arrival in the restaurant. It took one hour before we could order dinner. When I requested an ice bucket for the white wine, I was told by the chef that one does not drink wine icy but with a dining room at 30ºC an ice bucket is a must. We have been regular visitors in the past but Covid created a 3 year hiatus. I’m pleased to report that this restaurant remains a firm favourite. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and accommodated 12 people for lunch on 2 separate days with ease and great skill. The food is excellent and the wine list comprehensive with good wines at reasonable prices. We will be back again before too long.
We love the Macon area and visit often. We always stay in the hotel as a base when visiting vineyards and go downstairs for a reliably excellent meal. I just wish they would split up the menu a bit we seldom want or manage the pudding course, but even if you go a la carte, you still end up paying the same or more. The cooking is very competent and the portions of Foie Gras are pretty large!
This cook sure knows what he’s at. Very creative, lots of flavours and unexpected combinations of ingredients. We went there for lunch and I had a menu at € 24. It was worth every penny and more. Add the friendly service, the beautiful location in this lovely village and the superb local wine and tell me I could have done better!
