La Grand'Halte - Reservar uma mesa

This is a restaurant and a hotel, one of the few in La Bastide. We stayed here on the last night of a one week hike on the Robert Lewis Stevenson Trail, which we hiked with a donkey, much like Stevenson did in the mid-19th century. The hotel is old but has been redone somewhat. Our room was small for 3 people and the beds had plastic sheets over the mattresses, which made for extremely uncomfortable sleeping. The bathroom was small with a broken accordion door and a strange little shower. But the hotel did have a functional. Internet connection, though it was rather slow. We staggered into this place after4 bruising days on the rls trail struggalage with our aine. This is a railway town with railway hotels. Its basic but clean and with significant quantities of lasagne for the evening meal. Think aldershot rather than henley. I thought it was ok- i particularly liked the donkey accommodation.

The hotel is a bit basic but warm welcome and friendly staff. We had a demi-pension deal but also had lunch on the terrace. The menu was varied and good value for money. The demi-pension meal was not exciting but good food for walkers on the Stevenson Way.

The food is a disgrace : deep-frozen bread, tinned vegetable salad, minute portions. The service is sloppy, barely polite. The decor is miserable. Visibly the manager has absolutely no interest in delighting his patrons.

Unwelcoming. Shabby decor. Basic tasteless food. Stale bread. Certainly not what weary travellers would want or expect
