La Maison des Beaujolais

We had been searching for a restaurant until after 15:00 and found nothing acceptable. We stopped at La Maison des Beaujolais to sample the wines. The were by far the best we found anywhere in Beaujolais and we bought more bottles than we had planned for that region. During the course of conversation we asked about a restaurant open at that time. Alas, none were, but she asked the chef if he could whip up something for us. He whipped up two plates of Cochonnailles that were absolutely delicious. We did our wine tasting accompanied by the special dish. Alas, it was our last day in Beaujolais and we could not return. It will certainly be our first stop the next time we visit or pass through.

We had a prebooked group meal at la Maisonette des Beaujolais, and it was very good. We also had quite a bit of wine which we could enjoy fully as we were travelling on a coach.For me it was the dessert that made this meal memorable. It was a dark berry sorbet, laced with wine or alcohol, not quite sure at that stage. I savoured every spoonful, as it was absolutely delicious. Who would have expected that of a Sorbet? We left the Maison des Baujolais feeling quite happy, especially as the price was very reasonable for everything we had consumed.

We've eaten here twice now. Both times we were please with what we got - I would observe that the restaurant is slow to start - or in other words you sit waiting to order (it can feel like a long time) but I can see the logic as once you've ordered it all flows at speed - or at the speed you consume. The menus are good, the wine list, on surprise it is 100% Beaujolais and the Cru's. A great not fine dining but good food.

I'm sorry to say the staff were quite unfriendly although the service was quite quick. The ambience was nice - the rooms were elegant. However the food was poor and I left my main course unfinished. Maybe if another selection was made the enjoyment would be complete.

Restaurant is ok. Food was good. The selction is all right. Personnel was friendly enough. The wine selection very interesting. Prices are ok
