La Rive Belle Ecluse D'herminis

We cycled in the heat about 12km along the canal from where we had parked the car....so the restaurant was a very welcome sight! We had booked a table for 4 and sat outside under the bamboo canopy....a lovely setting by the lock. There are no set menus, just ‘a la carte‘, and the prices were around 15 Euros for a starter, and just over 20 Euros for a main course. Between 4 of us we had 3 starters, 4 main courses, a couple of drinks each and a cappuccino to finish and the bill came to 40 Euros a head. I highlight this as I had been led to believe that the prices would be lower than that......but it has to be said that the quality of the meal was very good, and perhaps you pay for the setting....

I ate here a few years ago and decided to try it again today. I think it must have changed hands in the meantime the attitude was certainly different. Very attractive setting but €7 for two coffees, and the waiter could hardly have been less friendly and helpful when I asked if it would be possible to have just a salad without the meat or dairy additions he replied that he could only do vegetables. Went down the road to La Halte Romaine at Villesquèlande instead and had a delicious meal.

We went twice to La Rive Belle in late June/early July and enjoyed the fabulous food on both occasions. Najim is a perfect host, very welcoming, courteous and looks after all his customers well. Very relaxed peaceful setting with the added interest of boats on the canal negotiating the lock in full view of the tables. Well prepared/cooked and large portion meals accompanied with a good selection of wine, beer or soft drinks. Recommended.

Quiet lunch date alongside the canal on a hot late summers day. Lovely food as ever, friendly helpful service, every ice cream imaginable washed down with Rose. Would love to come here one evening as the setting is beautiful

Cycling past and stopped for a coffee (excellent) and decided to have a snack of french fries and charcuterie plate, very nice food and friendly staff. Nice spot to stop as well.
