Excellent food, perfect service every time. My favorite restaurant in Autun, hands down. There is a young chef in the kitchen, and in some sense, I suppose that he is still learning on the job, but my, what a fast learner! He has mastered the classic dishes of the local repertoire, all of which are well-represented, but then has gone on to develop his own style, which has resulted in often brilliant combinations, as well as capitalizing on the cornucopia of fresh, seasonal ingredients that can be found in and around Autun. If you long for a place where you can enjoy the traditional French lodging and cuisine, this is the place to be. The hotel and the restaurant are located right in the city centre of Autun in an old but well maintained building. Parking the car is easy and the reception is very friendly. Rooms are fitting the location: stately rooms with a lot of space and amenities. Our room was very quiet given the fact that you are in the centre of a city. The restaurant is really very good. Always looking for real French experiences when I visit France, which is usually 2-3 times per year and Le Tete Noire was perfect. The hosts, a couple who seem to run and own the hotel and restaurant were very friendly and attentive. Chose from the cheapest set menu which was 23euro for 4 courses and each was brilliant (I’ve eaten at many far more expensive restaurants but value for money this place smashed it) the cheese selection was brilliant and very generous! Left very full, and with the thought that If I ever returned to Autun I would happily come again...

Place just around the corner from the main square, well worth those few steps. Great hospitality and service, simple decor, generous portions and perfectly cooked food. I had duck breast with orange, my husband had a steak, both very happy. Dessert just absolute delight, 'Illes flotantes ' , light, tasty, perfect finish for the dinner. Great value for money, would go there any time again. Highly recommended.

Absolutely love this restaurant. A great choice, reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of the food. Excellent wine list. Fab cheese board. Children welcome.
