We were travelling from St James in Normandy to Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne. Saumur was a mid point so we wandered down the Loire and starting thinking of food. I had seen a review of a few places in the Telegraph so we called the...L’Alchemiste late on Friday and thankfully they had a space It’s a small but lovely restaurant, not lots of tables. We were first in and worried no one else was coming but it quickly filled up. We had their 3 course dinner and a lovely bottle of local fizz. our hotel in saumur has recommended this restaurant. it is the location in the back roads of saumur but easily found. it is just small, so make sure that they book (you can book online) we went mid week outside the season and it was full (not surprisingly in consideration. the standard of food.) it is meelin, but very with exception in price for quality. we went for the standard dilat dessert and it was extraordinary eating. the restaurant itself has a very cozy layout feeling and is not pretense at all. give it a try, they will not regret it

we were there yesterday with friends. the diner was excellent and the service nice and pro, even if a bit long. the card is interesting, even if a bit too short for me, I would have a few other options for. the starter and the main estimated. we took the foie grass and the magret and both were fresh and tasty. a few more steps for the 1st Michelin star, but I guess they are not far away (can be by improving the precision and presentation)

what a great menu for 28 en 40 euro. beautiful amusement, good service and original dishes. very fresh cucumber gazpacho with optimal taste. prawns with carrot. dorade with bulgur and sweet. hake and courgette mousse. aprikosen and red fruits. you feel the love and the attention of the cook. for this price they will not be disappointed! Booking is recommended

wonderful restaurant worth a visit. we booked four tables on a Saturday evening in august and were very impressed. the food, the ambiente, the service and the wee have blown us away. the menu was a bit short, but each dish was beautifully executed...beide visual and tasteful that it was not important.
