I visited a friend who lives not far from the city of Sens that is a commune in the Yonne department in Bourgogne Franche Comté in north central France, 120 km from Paris. I found important to visit the Sens Catholic Cathedral. The cathedral dedicated to Saint Stephen. Sens was the first Cathedral to be built in the Gothic architectural style. The choir was begun between 1135 and 1140. It is a national monument of France. The structure was finally completed in the 16th century. After visiting the Cathedral, we had lunch right next to the market. L 'Ambiance des Halles in rue du plat d 'etain is a nice spot. Has a large fresh fish and seafood counter. We heard of this concept where you can buy your fresh seafood to take home on one side or have it prepared on the spot to eat in. The restaurant side is small and reservations are recommended. Lunchtime is busy and service is erratic. The staff does not pay attention to details because they are busy. Sad to loose the touch. Champagne was served in regular wine glasses. Main course was brought without retiring the appetizer plates. Things like that. Prices are high, but everything is in France and the food was deliciously prepared. Recommended and would go again.
A massive fish counter. Make your choice. Cooked in front of you. Steamed or grilled and served with a choice of side dish. Good value wine. Monday service very busy and staff a little hassled Chef arguing with irate customers who’ve been waiting for 45 min for drink and food. Understaffing may be a problem. Very good and simple concept.
We planned to stop in Sens to experienced typical Burgundy food, but when we stopped in front this place we change our mind and decided to have a look inside. Very nice welcome, amazing see food choice, very fresh fish, good local wine, you can really enjoy. People take care about you. we had a really good time with family.
