This building seems to have sat empty for just about all of the time that I have been visiting La Palma (14 years), so last month I was pleased to see that it has now reopened as a restaurant. Inside, the restaurant is well decorated, with scenes from the island, as well as of the local wildlife, including the “grajas” (red-billed choughs), some of which I could hear calling just outside as I ate. There are 2 murals of what could be called folkloric representations of the landscapes of the island, again including flocks of “grajas”. Some poems about the island complement the wall decoration. Enjoying walking and birdwatching in the area just north of the restaurant and the visitors' centre,...

This was an organised stop as part of an organised day trip to La Palma. Fixed menu lunch with bottled water and an unlabeled bottle of red wine on the table (never a particularly good sign) Starter was goat's cheese in breadcrumbs, then there was salted ham flank in a garlicky oil dressing served with potatoes and corn on the cob. Finished up with a bowl of custard, or as the other couple at our table proclaimed, Creme Anglais! Mass catering but definitely nothing to shout about. Service was good, given that there were 2 people serving two coach loads of people. About the only redeeming factor.

After checking positive reviews and opening hours, we walked from our accommodation. We like wine and didn't want to drive. A pleasant 20 minute walk. On arrival the place was locked up. The notice on the door confirmed opening hours and declared it closed on Mondays. This is Thursday. It was 7pm....We had to walk home and rustle up some dinner ourselves, but since we had planned to eat out it wasn't great. Won't be back.
