We stopped with our boat near the Ognon lock and we thought let's have dinner. So we went to the Le Baron d'Ar and we didn't expect this superb food, and lots of it. The menu is not big but they have like most French restaurants a set menu to choose from. We had foie gras filled by a whole duck breast with homemade fries. A fromage plater and dessert. Omg, the food was absolutely amazing, huge portions and we had to take the duck breast back to our boat, accompanied by a little pot of aioli, was a nice lunch snack the next day. We have to mention that this little restaurant next to the canal was only run by two people, chef and waiter. Little time of waiting but with these portions absolutel...

We were recommended this restaurant when going through the lock adjacent to it by a fellow boating person we met in the lock . On our return journey we decided to make a point of stopping for supper . We were not disappointed!! Food was excellent, really good food cooked very well . I had fish soup and the special which was my favourite... Lobster ! Simply cooked and wonderful. My husband had duck which also was beautiful. Followed by waffles , cheese and caramel ice cream . Local wine was good and very reasonable. Can highly recommend, lots of locals eating do that usually says it all !

Cruising on the canal du midi we came across this restaurant as we went through the locks at Ognon - and a quick drink turned into an excellent decision to stay for lunch. The menu for 15€ was superb, a mixed salad for the girls, crisp and fresh and a tasty pate de compagne for the men was followed by pork fillet casserole with olives - it was a boiling hot day but under the shade of the plane trees it was a great choice. The ice creams that followed were also superb. Le patron was welcoming and charming and I do hope many travelling the canal will stop and try this gem of a restaurant.
