"Had a lovely lunch on the terrace. I had the set menu, which at 14€90 inc wine and coffee represents excellent value for high-quality food (just one choice per course). My companion had one main course, and the staff were kind enough to give her a complementary salad while I was eating my starter. The setting, the food and the staff were all great, would highly recommend for lunch."

The only redeeming features of this restaurant were that the staff were friendly, gave us a table outside on a sunny day and were generally helpful and nice. Apart from that, it is the worst restaurant that we have eaten in in the whole area and we have tried a lot of restaurants and different types of places to eat over the years. Truly hideous building in a back street with zero charm or decor. First course was deep fried pork scratchings on salad. I kid you not. Beef for the main course could surely only have come from the proverbial old boots. Ice cream for pudding was cheapest possible catering highly chemical flavour. Wine was the best thing about it but not the great wine list promise...

As Le Cheval Blanc was not open (cookery lesson) we opted for the sister restaurant in Venaray, where we were greeted in a most friendly manner by Angelique, wife of Regis, chef at Le Cheval Blanc whom we had met the previous Sunday. The menu du jour was very good value at €26 for 4 courses so I chose this; my wife went a la carte. There was a varied choice and quantities were very adequate. There seems to be a speciality for grills a la brochette. My prawns with a chorizo creme brulee was an unusual and tasty starter, and my wife’s rabbit terrine was both tasty and very generous in quantity. We both ended up with steak mains, cooked medium rare with tasty accompanying vegetables. My apricot...

My wife and I ate here last night and had a very enjoyable meal. We chose the set menu at €26 for four courses and all were of very good quality. We had a crayfish and smoked salmon salad to start and a lovely fillet of trout as the main. Two nice pieces of cheese next followed by a choice of desserts off the a la carte menu all washed down by a very good Petit Chablis at €23.50. If we had eaten off the a la carte menu our starter and the most expensive dessert would have cost €24 so the set meal was very good value. The only downside was that towards the end of the meal we were plagued by tiny little flies attracted by the lights as we were outside. Otherwise this would have been a five sta...

I was cycling through the area and on the lookout for lunch. I came across Le Bistrot de Louise completely by chance. The place was empty when I was seated at 12:00. I joked that I did not have a reservation. By 12:15 the place was full and people without reservations were being turned away. The set menu consisting of salad, a beef brochette with potatoes, cheese and desert, plus wine and coffee was just EUR 14.90. Moreover, it very good quality and efficiently served. Perfect for lunch.
