Le Castel De Verlieu

When travelling, isn’t it wonderful when something happens and it’s a complete and positive surprise and puts a big smile on your face? Such was the case when my wife and I dropped into Le Castel Verlieu for lunch. Now, if you only like places that are all glitz and glitter, then this place isn’t for you. It thrives on its local and very French character, and we love that. But when we arrived there was a Portuguese surprise: a performance of Cesaria Evora, the famous Fado singer, playing on a big screen TV. We were travelling down the Rhone valley and at about lunchtime we saw a restaurant on hill overlooking the river, we decided to take pot luck and tried it out. The restaurant is approached up a steep driveway and the car park is situated a steep slope below the restaurant (there is disabled parking at the top). It was a lovely day, the tables were set out on the shady terrace that looks out over the valley. The menu of the consisted of starter, main course and dessert for the grand sum of 15.50 euros, so we were not expecting anything great. We were wrong. There was a good choice of all courses. We made a visit after half year, and it was the same pleasure as our Christmas visit! The staff was very friendly, the food excelent, and the Rhone view, speachless!

Super rien à dire. Ambiance très agréable. Plats très bien présents et très bons Propriétaire et serveuse très sympa, à l'écoute et réactif
