Le Grain de Sel - Reservar uma mesa

Went to this lovely, unpretentious restaurant on a Saturday recently, 10th June, with my wife and a friend. The fixed price menu at 25euro for was excellent value, smoked cold meet salad to start, perfectly flavoured, rabbit in white wine in pastry or fish (hake) as main, both excellent, dessert or cheese selection, great value in wines (do not miss local Jura varieties). Of course there is much else on the a la carte menu but we could not fault our choices. Lons le Saunier is a great town to visit with some beautiful villages and hiking trails nearby. Do try to come here if you are touring this beautiful region and check out this restaurant if you can.

An interesting carte if they could cook it. We did not want a large meal so avoided the menus. Amuse bouche of dressed fish ok. Morilles starter (€29!) lacked flavour. Main course rabbit was bitty and dry with an uninspired sauce. My fillet of beef was rare, as ordered, but lacked finesse in both cooking and saucing. Desserts, ordered before the limitations were known, were an inedible mix of tomato and ice cream and a fruit tart with ice cream rather than the specified sorbet. With 2 half bottles of wine total was €140.50. I paid in full but expressed some dissatisfaction - this was met aggressively.

We spent a long weekend in the department of Jura. The name of the restaurant sounded like a promise and we gave it a try. After a hearty welcome, we were already served a greeting from the chef. The menu is varied and every dish was prepared with attention and high standard.The wine (Trousseau, a marvel from the region) was excellent and more than reasonable in price.I you spend a day or two in the region, go there!

I'm so glad I stumbled over Le Grain de Sel when was strolling around, looking for a place to eat my lunch. I was immediately attracted by the look of the restaurant and the menu. I must say that everything was better than I expected. The food was delicious and the staff went out of their way to satisfy me, e.g. by having me taste two wines before ordering a single glass. Well done!

What more can you expect from a mid range price restaurant? Great food, great wine and good service in a warm and cozy atmosphere! The 25€ menu was worth the travel. No fancy dishes for sure, but plain good food.
