Driving across Provence in search of our hotel and we were hungry. We hit this tiny T junction in the middle of nowhere so far as we could tell and there were two restaurants on opposite sides of the road. A careful look indicated that Le Grand Saule was clearly the busier and much more popular. Accordingly we drove round and parked outside. The waiter, there were several but he seemed to be the Matron de die of the place offered us a table. Well obviously after all the miserable weather many of the restaurants were closed, on this higher VAR mountain route but this cute little chalet style restaurant on the main road caught our attention, especially when we saw how many people were already sat out on the terrasse waiting for lunch. Warm welcome from what we assume was the head waiter, were promptly served with a lovely chilled Provence Rose and the meal followed in a very orderly manner. This is a local restaurant to us and we've tried to get in many times at the weekend to no avail. Book or be disappointed. The team are very welcoming, and the atmosphere in the resturant is a great vibe. Food is delicious and plentyful. Our orders were taken and processed in good time. We were not in a hurry and requested a 30 min break before ordering deserts which was honoured by the team. Already looking forward to the next visit and would highly recommend to friends.
Extremly unpleasant reception by the manager/chef! We had reserved for a saturday eve for 4 to celebrate our daughters aniversary. And were the ONLY guests…. Almost insulting us as ‘stupid foreigners’ tough we live in the area for many years. Never ever again! Just a perfect tourist trap.
