Le Mesclun - Reservar uma mesa

Living locally, we are some of the regular customers that eat here both in and out of season and while the view is fabulous (in summer) and the service is typically quite good, our recent experiences continue to erode our perception. The ‘amuse bouche’ is very good but this hasn’t changed in over a year which is somewhat disappointing. The starters were mixed when it comes to reviews with my ‘terrine de fois gras’ fine with an excellent presentation even though it became quite apparent that the size of the portion significantly differed from table to table. I suspect the Mesclun is a wonderful place to be on a hot day when you can sit outside and look out from this hilltop village over the wines. Sadly, on the day we went it was raining and the walk up to it was challenging for us oldies. Perhaps that explains why it did not seem as good as we had been told; perhaps not. One way or another, the food was significantly less exciting than we had epected, with a sense that perhaps there was too much use of marinading/use of a water bath as a means of preparation? The trouble is that at the end of the day, if you serve a poor cut of meat you won't make it into a good one no matter how long you cook it for or how slowly. Starters were okay but rather...

We have often walked past this resto whilst wandering around this beautiful village but never been able to get in. This time we booked! We both had the chefs 3 course recommendation tartare of calamar and bull, veal two ways and strawberry tiramisu. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The right amount of food for us both to finish every course. The view from the terrace is perfect looking across the vineyards creating grapes for the wines on the menu! Staff were polite and helpful and I was brought tasting notes for the wines, as I was finding it difficult to chose. Although the view is marvelous from the terrace one should take into account that before 21 hr you can be fully exposed to the sun. The dishes look very nice but taste is average. I think also that some of the staff were still in training.

The cuisine is just excellent. The place is amazing. The place to be in Séguret. Can improve the service, a good part of the team is really inexperienced but they are all very nice and willing...
