Le Resto d'Ay - Reservar mesa

A pleasant if unexceptional place redeemed by the light, bright room and the quality of the welcome. Monsieur serves, madame cooks. No other staff, apparently. The plat de jour was okay, a rabbit chasseur with fat, juicy rabbit but let down a bit by a sauce that needed a bit of oomph. A salade of chevre and lardons was good. A well chosen (by them, not me) bottle of champagne from Hautvillers washed it all down well. Nice to be somewhere with plenty of other customers, mostly locals it seemed. Worth a visit for a lunch if you are passing.

A return visit reminded us of why we liked this place - friendly, with good, slightly old-fashioned home cooking, at a reasonable price. Perhaps this meal wasn't quite so good. The coq-au-vin, the dish of the day, was a bit too much like home cooking, but the service was good and the wine fine. The sort of place we'd always go back to, but that we wouldn't ever have the highest expectations from.

If you don't want anything fancy, just good plain cooking or great salads, then this place is perfect. Very friendly and good service. The owner took back our first bottle without even asking us to taste it - and he was right. A good choice if you are staying nearby and don't want to drive miles to a restaurant - not much open in the winter months anyway. Happy to go back again.

Lovely meal provided by husband and wife team.Beautiful greeting, almost as if we were old friends.No English spoken but got by with good humour and an effort trying school boy french.Booking necessary as limited tables and you have the table for the duration. Reserve uma mesa agora

Late to check into b n b tonight. Food is so good! Salmon with white sauce - salad was boo boo ( ordered with salmon and prawns) Anyway Green salad and salmon 9/10., Steak chips salad - good!

My husband and I shared the Escargot feature of the day and Duck Confit salad and Salmon main. It was perfect, not too much, just enough. Definitely recommend.

Excellent service, no English but it was fine with minimal French, great traditional French cuisine and good prices! Must visit if you stop in Épernay!

We liket this place. Good service, the food was tasty good and excellent value. Definitely worth a quiet night in Ay.
