We wandered into this lovely local restaurant for lunch and found a large number of older French ladies who lunch. They all looked up at us in between their chatter. Although they were dining at a number of tables throughout this charming restaurant, they all seemed to know each other. Clearly this was the place that the locals dine. And what a place it is! The food was typical country French and delicious. The stuff dreams are made of. We had a liver terrine that came in a ball jar complete with a layer of delicious fat and a jar of the most perfect cornichons. OMG, you just cannot get food like this in New York! Beryl, her daughter and I had lunch here the summer before last, were most impressed. So we made a second visit last week. NO pretentions of any kind, but food of high quality in a friendly atmosphere. We liked the fact that there 's a big window into the kitchen, where you could see everything being prepared. Clean and extra-efficient presentation, with the chef personally bringing some dishes to the table. St. Romain is a wine town, tucked back in the hills a bit. Wine list consists, of course, of mostly local wines (St.Romains of various vintages and vineyards), by the glass, bottle, 1/2 bottle or even 2/3 bottle. We've lived 15 miles from Beaune these past 13 years, and this is the restaurant where I always take friends and relatives. This is the authentic little French restaurant tucked away in a gorgeous little wine village that you've been dreaming about. Very reasonably priced for impressively inventive high quality high flavor food. By comparison, most area restaurants are overpriced and serve the same five tired dishes. This is the real deal. But you MUST MUST MUST make a reservation if you just turn up, you will be turned away even though half the tables are empty. Oh, gotta recommend a starter course: terrine de ma grand mere, I think it's called. Oh wow.

Great authentic hotel restaurant , lovely food from the region . Minimal staff work at a high pace , chef moves around the salle regularly adding to the home feeling of the place. Price quality well balanced .
