Maikala - Reservar uma mesa

We had a very long walk sightseeing Bilbao when in the afternoon of the 21st January 2020 we found a this little gem for a coffee and cake after binging every day in alcohol and pinchos. The place reminds me of those lovely French patisserie with a lots of cakes to choose from accompanied by a lovely hot drink. Service was excellent, and the food was delicious that I had to indulge myself in a little piece of “polvoron” and it was great. Overall, I rate this place excellent for the fantastic choice and combinations of cakes to the service which has no equal. A definitely must be place if you are in Bilbao.

If Bilbao was my hometown I would pay at least two visits per week to this wonderful patisserie. It seems that we had a bit of a language problem when placing our order. So we ended up with three cups of coffee for the two of us. Yet, no problem as the coffee was good... Their cake is not just good, it's pure bliss! We had the Basque gateau and a slice of passion fruit cream cake. Maikala sure is the place to be for all cake lovers.

Service was nice. Pastries were amazing, fresh, not too sweet, made with butter. Ended up going there twice a day on a 5-night stay. The especial Maikala and milhojas were my favorite.

Maikala is an interesting patisserie in the heart of the old town on Plaza Nueva. I tried the Basque custard donut and it was delicious and the Lotus cake which seemed overrated.

A very good sweets and cafee in a small sweetie boutique: I enjoy to taste and experience the soul of Bilbao. Nice location and very easy to find
