"The gamjatang didn't have the depth it should and needed more perilla seed powder. The seafood pancake was great with the ssam dipping sauce but I had high expectations with all the high reviews. Will have to try it again. Might be an off day."

We've heard that there are a couple quality Korean places in North Van so decided to try out Maru Korean Bistro. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon around 1:45pm). Didn't realize the restaurant was so massive. We were seated in the front which had great lighting, cute plants and reminded me of being in a greenhouse. Service is friendly and they come by several times to refill our tea. Oddly, we had to ask for water and other things, which normally are brought out automatically. The regular menu is split into Maru's specials, chef's special, bibimbap, ssam, soups, sides and drinks. The lunch menu is limited to 11 items but great value prices range from $10.99 to $13.99). They also have hap...

This review is for lunch, ordered from their All Day Menu. Upon entrance, the space inside is much bigger then from the look of the shop front, in fact it 's huge! I guess they do big parties or catering functions as well. Items ordered: Soft Tofu Soup with Seafood $13.00 4/5 stars Rich, creamy not that is has any dairy product , savoury, hint of miso, Korean dried chilli powder, and traditional Korean soup base. All in all, a very hearty and deep flavour! The heat of the chilli powder hits you first and then finishes off with the umami of the seafood and the miso. The soft tofu is smooth as silk, and has a good amount of seafood: baby clams, squid, baby shrimps. Their version is slightly di...

After having a lot of western foods over the past week, my sister and I decided to get some Korean food even though we get plenty of good Korean food in the SF Bay Area and LA. We didn't have many expectations, but Maru Korean Bistro blew them out of the waters. The decor inside is very modern and sleek, and we were seated after a short wait. After some pondering, my sister ordered the beef bone broth noodle soup and I ordered the pork belly SSAM. We also decided the share the mushroom japchae, which was a mistake because it was SO MUCH FOOD. We ended up saving the japchae for lunch the following day, where it re-heated well and was just as delicious. My sister was sick so I only got a spoon...

Tasty Korean food with some vegan options but horrendously overpriced. We stopped in for dinner on a Friday at about 6pm. The place is very large and only maybe 1 4 of it was occupied by diners. Their menu has VA vegan option available) next to items that can be prepared vegan, so we found three items to share: -Wild mushroom japchae $21). This was nicely prepared, maybe a touch oily, with lots of green and red peppers, various types of mushrooms, and onions. Very tasty classic Korean dish, but unjustifiably pricey. 4 5 -Korean pancakes $25). A large portion of potato pancakes heavily fried and thus quite crispy, with various vegetables. This was too oily greasy for us, but still tasty. And... Reserve uma mesa agora

Shut the front door team! I was wandering around North Van on the weekend and stumbled on this gem through yelp recommendations for Korean food. It was my second time visiting north van and what a surprise this restaurant was. The queue was reasonable and wait was definitely worth it for their lunchtime special. Wow, it was truly Korean at its best and delicious in flavours. The weather has its up and downs and I love soup, so thought this would be the perfect combo. I ordered the tofu vegetable soup meat combo with the grilled soy pork shoulder. The soup was so nourishing full of tofu, raw egg and vegetables galore. The pork was all meat and was not fatty at all. You also get the sides of c...

We did not expect to eat Korean food outside Coquitlam. Maru Korean Bistro is a huge surprise for us. We ordered a lettuce wrap with short ribs which comes with a stone bowl of tofu soup, a bowl of rice, and some Korean side dishes. The food was delicious with a generous portion. We also ordered a Korean cold buckwheat noodle with pork (Mul Naengmyun) from the lunch special menu. We can't believe it when the dishes arrive. It was too good for a lunch menu. Maru Korean Bistro is located at 125 2nd Street East, North Vancouver, BC. It is near the Lonsdale Quay, and it is a gem on the North Shore. Food: 5/5 MustTry! Service: ‍‍‍‍‍5/5 Kids: 3/5 A-Ok for Kids ! Price: $30-$50 for two (lunch) Pres...

Good korean bistro vibe, really big dine in space indoors. The fried chicken was good and comes with fried rice cakes (which was actually my favourite part, more than the chicken! . The only thing missing are the amount of side dishes. They could have served them right at the beginning. But I get the side dishes only comes with the combo sets, which we got the Salisbury steak and pork. The combos also come with rice as well. Overall, not a bad spot for Korean bistro fair. I would go back again.

Maru means wooden floor in Korean and for sure you can find the wooden floor inside the restaurant. Interior design was clean and neat. Food was good. I can't say food here is better than other popular restaurants in Korea. However I still can say it is satisfying enough considering the fact that you are not in Korea but in Vancouver! This restaurant might be the best place for you to try Korean food for the first time or to introduce Korean food to your friends. Reserve uma mesa agora

You can't tell from the outside, but on the inside the place is gigantic. On the immediate left is a smaller more cozy dining area. Further in is a much larger and open dining area perfect for large parties and celebrations. Service was polite but not too efficient. Several times we were trying to flag down our server but had difficulty finding him. The food was tasty! piping hot and full of flavour. We will definitely return here!
