We arrived early (typically English and were met by the chef who offered us a glass of wine, apologised that he couldn 't cook for us until the rest of the staff arrived, and proceeded to entertain us for the rest of the evening. Carlos speaks very good English and likes to practise it. His style of cooking is far from the standard bar food we had experienced elsewhere. As we were on the fixed menu there was no choice, but he did ask us beforehand if there was anything we disliked or couldn 't eat. (Much mirth that my husband is allergic to bananas! .
