Pastelaria Restelo

Founded in 1954, and tucked in a residential part if Belém, Pastelaria O Careca has earned notoriety for their Sugar Croissants, in English “Baldman’s Croissant” but in any Language a destination-worthy delicacy that sees the Café’s interior crowded from open till close. Decorated like most of Lisbon’s Pastelaria, but with a sizable outside terrace shaded by trees more than quadrupling capacity, it is upon entry that guests are greeted in Portuguese, a largely local patronage finding English lacking and few items labeled thus leading to decisions based on prior experience and one’s eyes. Well priced and accommodating, €1.10 per Pastel de Nata finding the shell a bit soggy but Custard jiggly...

Eu tenho ido muitas vezes para Careca, mas hoje foi uma experiência muito ruim. O proprietário/gerente deve ter sido mais preparado para as férias (10 de junho). Os únicos dois itens mais vendidos que eles realmente têm: Palmiers e crossiants às 4.30 desapareceram, terminaram. Esta é a hora do chá, como é que não planearam isto? A equipe é rude e legal e as mesas foram sujeira. Por favor, juntem-se. Como é que isto é aceitável? Nunca mais.

The O Careca is above all overrated. The “famous” croissants with a sugar crust are as good as or below some others made all over Lisbon. The setting is the neighborhood of Restelo possibly the most upmarket in Lisbon but the service is poor, parking is all but impossible and after you put your order you realize they don’t take cards as means of payment. Excuse me?!?! 21st century but they want to save in bank fees? Very bad.

We came here on a recommendation by our local friends and really loved it. They have a range of freshly made local pastries and cookies which all taste delicious and are very fairly priced. Sitting area outside is very relaxing. Highly recommended

The small place in this residential and quiet part of the city, serves some of the most iconic portuguese pastery. Very famous among the locals. Even the President sometimes has breakfast here. Good food and good prices!

The Careca has the best Christmas cake in town. Also well know the debil croissants and the palmiers. So, so good. The place is located in a traditional neighborhood. The service is nice

Very good. Wide offer of pastrie. Croissant with sugar, delicia de ovos and pastel de nata very tasty. Full in rush hour. Eat in or take away. Parking at walk distance. A must try! Reserve uma mesa agora

Cars everywhere, on the curbs, on the sidewalks, on the pedestrian lanes, service terribly slow, lots of people making lots of noise... never to return

A perfect place to try the portuguese Bolo Rei (King Cake), common at Christmas but very good throughout the year.
