Restaurant L'Oustalet

L'Oustalet is nicely situated in Lourmarin, and is a pleasant place to have lunch. It supposedly was Albert Camus' favorite restaurant in Lourmarin...but that was years ago! The food is pretty basic french cooking. OK, but nothing to write home about. We had a nice...lunch here, but there are plenty of other places that I would go to for dinner if I was looking for something more upscale. Service was sort of shambolic...the server/owner was perfectly nice, but it took a long time to get our meal, they were out of the special of the day, etc.

the village lourmarin in the Provence is empty from tourist and many restaurants are closed for the season, but we have been happy with a table in this great restaurant. it belongs to a brother (the chef) and sister (greed and server) who are friendly and charming. we loved the salat with crisp local greens and fried goat cheese followed by amazing lamb stew with kartoffeln au gratin. fabulous creme brûlée for dessert. good value for two with good bottle local red for highly recommended!

we have been going to the Provence for decades and have unfortunately seen many restaurants leaving the regional cuisine for fancier tea and gimmicks (fouling bouncing etc.) so it was a joy to find that l’oustalet still washed local Provencal meal like rabbits and guinea fowl. down with luberon wine. husband and wife owners were delightful man cooked, they served with amusing flare. we enjoyed the experience so much that we went back in the next night.

we drove to Provence and it was almost like we had to stop at lunch. we drove through lourmarin and found a parking lot. when it rained, we dug directly over the street l’oustalet into the restaurant. we could not have been happy anymore. we had a wonderful and cheap lunch. would highly recommend whether they stay in lourmarin or simply go through.

we went to l’oustalet twice to eat. very good kitchen and good value for money. I had souris d’agneau and for dessert fondant au chocolat delicious.
