Scenic Coffee Brunch

The service was exceptional; the person who took my order also prepared the food. He was genuinely passionate about discussing his creations, which enhanced the overall experience. I’ve heard that some customers have mentioned a chemical smell from the nearby hair salon that can sometimes waft into the café, but I didn’t experience that, likely because I arrived before they opened. Plus, my limited sense of smell worked in my favor! Choosing between the mochi pancakes and the black sesame French toast was tough, as the latter sounded incredible and looked amazing in photos. I visited this restaurant for lunch on a weekday and was pleased to find that there was no wait. I wasn't bothered at all by the salon next door. We ordered the tamagoyaki omelette and blueberry mochi yuzu pancakes. The omelette, which came with a side salad, was very good, and the salad dressing was just right. However, if the menu hadn't mentioned mochi, I wouldn't have even noticed it in the pancakes. They tasted like regular pancakes, and there was barely any yuzu flavor. On the bright side, the toffee on top added a lovely caramelized touch. Overall, I still consider Scenic to be an above-average café in Markham, and I would come back to try more of their dishes.

The food here was disappointing. For $16, I ordered The Scenic with spam (which was my choice). The Shokupan bread was dry, and the salad was very lightly dressed and strangely salty. The eggs were cooked to my preference (soft scrambled), but the waitress didn't seem to acknowledge my request after I repeated it twice. When she went over our orders, I had to remind her again and clarify because I was worried she didn't fully understand. On a positive note, the potato salad was enjoyable, and the eggs ended up cooked to my liking. However, our coffees were served without any sugar, which we had to request. Given the price, I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

I had heard that the restaurant was connected to a hair salon from other reviews, and while I wanted to give it a try, the smell from the salon was quite overwhelming. Overall, although the food was decent, the slow service and high prices make it unlikely that I would return. The restaurant was a bit hidden in a shared space with a hair salon. It took us some time to place our order since they were quite busy on a Friday afternoon.
