Schooners' Fish & Chips

Did a late lunchtime visit for fish & chips, after reading all the glowing reviews, and we happened to be in town. Prices are about average, portion size smaller than other area shops, didn't do coleslaw or tartar sauce or chowder...so I can't comment.Food was ok, service ok..... restaurant was not busy. Fish batter a little dark (overcooked ?)....we had the halibut which doesn't fare well if overcooked, haddock maybe better suited to the batter mix; fries the same, average. Just expected a little better from a place that has fish as their main attraction; maybe our tastes are a little different. The photo shows how dark coloured the fish batter is, too much something. I wouldn't travel far...

The waitress doesn't smile, not very welcoming. cleanliness leaves a desire, the edges of the white windows are dirty black. We were served with the eaglefin (good) and fries with black stitches since they do not remove the potato germs. only the fish and fries in the plate, a little cabbage salad would have been good. a tartare sauce of about 10ml, not much. They don't seem to want to keep customers.

Sit on the patio on hot days. Nice to support this local fish and chips place. We stopped in here before buying groceries at sobey's across the street. The batter on fish was a little too thick for my liking but their coleslaw was very nice. Not over dressed. We opted to eat here over McDonalds down the street and glad we did.

The old guy on the grill seemed be be in a consistent state of annoyance, and there was an overall confusion to everything going on it seemed. The waitress with Pink hair seemed nice but lacked basic skills in mathematics. The food was OK overall, and of average quality. The batter was nice the but chowder was Lukewarm.

We ordered a 2PC Halibut and a milk shake to share. The owner was nice enough to split the order in 2 servings for us. The fish was fresh, crispy and light. Good side of tartar sauce.
