I had heard of the legend, the chicken fried steak to end all chicken fried steaks. And I heard that it was at Sherry's Texan Seafood. I was not misled. Like any chicken fried steak connoisseur, I asked for the cream gravy to be on the side because otherwise it's a slight against the gods of chicken fried steak. That statement may offend some people but in order to truly enjoy a crispy fried humongous chunk of beef, you really need to have the gravy in a separate container, this is a rule I adhere to and will continue to observe until the day I die. My dad swore that this place had the best seafood on the south side. We finally went, and after realizing they had made some changes, we felt a bit let down. We ordered the turtle garnishes with onion rings, but I had oysters and he had fish. It seemed like each type of seafood came with its own bread, which wasn’t ideal, but it was tolerable. However, the onion rings had the worst breading and would easily fall off. The food wasn’t bad—it was decent—and the "neighborhood ice cream" was a nice touch. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly and efficient.

Must try the fish and jumbo shrimp with the cornbread batter. Simple but very delicious with some tarter sauce, ketchup, lemon and Tabasco. The shrimp are battered very nicely which makes for a nice crisp with tons of flavor. Service is always great. Support local and enjoy a San Antonio stable for good fish fry.

We found this place wrong and it was not disappointed. Chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked. Onion rings were perfect and the tea was fresh. Our waitress was the sweetest lady. We'll be back. Next time we will try the seafood and the Mexican food.
