Simple Simon - Reservar uma mesa

Even if we were not that hungry we wanted to have a late lunch at Simple Simon based on the reviews seen on Tripadvisor. When we got there there was only one table occupied by two other persons and it stayed this way until we left but anyway it was not a lunch or brunch or dinner hour. My boyfriend had the fried fish in a wrap with sauce, salmon tartar etc and I decided to have only a slice of cake (one with nuts) and we both had coffee. The cake was very good and actually all cakes were looking great, it was very hard to decide. Great choice of homemade cakes and a large selection of teas etc. A group of 9, we were too late for lunch but enjoyed afternoon drinks and cake. Charming venue, friendly, helpful and patient staff. It took us some time to decide which cakes to have as they all looked delicious and with 8 different chosen, I can confirm that they all were. Portions are large, easily enough for 2 to share and the pot of hot chocolate (50 cl) was enough for 3 or 4 cups. Approx 5 euros for a pot of tea, and 8 euros per portion of cake. Tucked outside the main tourist centre, this is a quirky little place that is essentially a copy of a stereotypical old-fashioned English tea shop, even down to the crockery, table cloths and general decorations. It was very busy when we arrived, and clearly the staff were under pressure. Nonetheless we were welcomed with courtesy and they found us a table, and took our order reasonably promptly. It was clear that they were coping well at a very pressured time, not letting drop their standard of customer service. The coffee and tea we ordered were good, and the desserts simply enormous. The placed seemed to be popular with tourists and the French alike.

After a long day of walking, we discovered that most restaurants had closed for lunch. I suspect Simple Simon was also scheduled to be closed. But that didn’t prevent the manager/owner from being welcoming and hospitable. We weren’t prepared for the cool weather so, in addition to being tired and hungry, we were chilled to the bone. The warm hospitality at Simple Simon was just what we needed. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. Save room for dessert the ones that we had were divine! We highly recommend Simple Simon.

We stumbled on this place when looking for somewhere 'a few streets back '. We had delicious cheese onion crumble tart with a lovely mixed salad. Despite the huge slice of tart, a couple of wedges of cheese were included. Washed down by nice wine by the glass and friendly service. Perfect for lunch outside on a warm afternoon.
