Sushi Katsuei West Village

I was looking for an affordable (under $100 per person), non-timed (looking at you, Sushi on Jones), authentic omakase experience in Manhattan and this was the best spot. 9 pieces of nigiri and a fatty tuna hand roll at the end for $60 is their cheapest omakase option. Sit at the sushi bar/counter for the omakase experience. Sushi was probably the best I've had in the city, portions left us satisfied, and service was great.

The best sushi I've eaten in New York, even compared to the high-end places like Yasuda. Also a friendlier vibe with families and more reasonable prices. Table service is good, but I would recommend omakase at the bar for the most sublime experience.

The Pacific Ocean themed Special Omakase is outstanding and some hard to find 'Japanese ' fish.
