Sushi Yoshizumi - Reservar mesa

if they are looking for the best sushi in bay area, don't look further. we were in several different omakase restaurants (where the sushi cook decides what to use them) in the bay area and yoshizumi is the best among all. yoshizumi serves traditional edomae style sushi. he concentrates on the taste of the original taste of every fish, which is also the reason why we love this place so much. there are no fancy sauce and no fusion at all, but he chooses the best fish and everything they need is a simple salt/soya/friend made wasabi. this is a cozy and initiatives restaurant in the inner city of san mateo. it is easy to find parking on the road (we always park on the parking lot above the road)...

Pricey but so very good and worth. Definitely elevated our omakase experience as every piece of fish was incredibly good and well prepared, yet so simple. My highlights were the bonito, octopus, snapper, and the tamago, but everything was delicious. Even the ginger on the side was unique and I could taste every grain of rice in the pieces of nigiri. Come for an authentic Japanese experience with no frills and nothing flashy. Reservations seems to be less crazy now than before (yay). Hope we have the chance to return again soon!

best sushi in the usa we have dined so many anomkase with a michelin 3 star. No one else could have the same magic mix of taste and texture as chef yoshizumi. it is not about using the same formula of Kaviar/wagyu/uni/toro all other high quality omakase restaurants. chef yoshizumi transforms the “common” ingredients into something completely phenomenal! a true master!

Ordered online for takeout — Toro uni ikura box Kaisen new Chirashi box shared among 3 adults) The fish is very fresh and the flavored rice was good. If you don’t like your rice vinegary with flavor then this bento is not for you. I appreciate how there was no packets of soy sauce. I always end up trashing it. It's the best authentic sushi place I have ever visited, not only in bay area or US. The food is super delicious without any doubt, and has a unique taste comparing to the other sushi places due to the way they prepare the fish. I also love how the chef make and introduce his food with tremendous passion.

Easily the best sushi I've ever had. Subtle flavors perfectly complementing each other coming together for each course. Seeing Chef Yoshi's mastery up close behind the counter is just another perk of eating here. Reservations are tough, prices are high but the effort and cost are absolutely worth it.

probably the best sushi in the bay. update: juli 2021 the indoor food back to yoshizumi, but with a reduced capacity. the sushi is still just as good. perfectly seasoned and warm rice and wonderful nato. the service was warm and attentive. really a real sushi lover place uncomplicated perfection.
