The New Inn Pub Food

When visiting the quaint town of Winchelsea, there aren't many dining options available. Luckily, the one remaining pub is a great choice. The pub features two main dining areas with wooden floors on each side of the front door. The small bar area has a stone floor, a fireplace, a piano, and four tables. Beyond the bar is a second room with a TV screen and a section of the L-shaped bar with keg taps. Outside, there is a small courtyard car park with a walled garden and a large tree providing shade for the benches. The food menu is above standard pub fare but not quite at the level of gastro. We ordered what was described as sour dough bread, a crab salad, a chowder and some chips. The bread was not in any way sour dough and it could have easily been a week old so we took one bite each and left the rest. I was warned that the crab in the salad wasn’t dressed (why not?? but I assumed that the salad itself would be dressed at least and there would perhaps be some mayo served with the nude crab. Wrong! The salad was crudely made and was served with absolutely no dressing. The crab on top was grey and very unappealing so the ‘dish’ was barely touched. The chips were thankfully well made. During our weekend stay in Winchelsea, my husband and I visited the pub for drinks on both nights. The staff were very friendly and even remembered our previous orders. We also had the pleasure of meeting some lovely locals. Although we didn't dine in the pub, the menu looked very appealing. We definitely plan on returning and next time we will try the food.

Excellent food, friendly service. First, we went as a family of four and enjoyed a superb lunch in the garden, which included fish and chips and sea bass. All delicious. The second visit was solo for another delicious traditional roast beef with all the trimmings.

Our family had a really enjoyable Sunday roast. The starters and mains were cooked to perfection. Excellent service and good value for money. We will be going back to the New Inn soon.
